Example of an Uber planner Job Description

INTRODUCTION:

  • Company overview: Founding vision, current state of affairs, size, relevant stats. 
  • Role mission: Goals, team, and resources to make it happen. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and optimization of comprehensive urban mobility strategies and transportation plans that enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Conduct research, simulations, and analysis to gather insights and translate them into actionable plans for city-wide transportation networks.
  • Identify and address challenges related to urban mobility, congestion, and sustainability through data-driven solutions.
  • Develop and implement workflows, system architectures, and protocols for urban planning projects, ensuring scalability and reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement by integrating the latest advancements in transportation planning, data analytics, and smart city technologies.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3-4 years of relevant experience in urban planning or transportation management, with at least 2 years focused on mobility strategy development or smart city projects.
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of successful urban planning projects, demonstrating expertise in transportation networks, land use planning, and sustainability practices.
  • Proficiency in urban planning software and tools, such as GIS, AutoCAD, or transportation modeling software, as well as knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with transportation data analytics, performance benchmarking, and system optimization.
  • Strong understanding of sustainable urban development, smart city concepts, and traffic management systems.
  • Experience in planning and leading urban mobility experiments and pilot projects.
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages used in data analysis (e.g., Python, R) and familiarity with transportation platforms (e.g., ride-sharing, public transit systems).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex planning concepts into practical applications and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
