Environmental Consultant Job Description

Example of an Environmental Consultant  Job Description

INTRODUCTION:

  • Company overview: Founding vision, current state of affairs, size, relevant stats. 
  • Role mission: Goals, team, and resources to make it happen.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the assessment, analysis, and development of environmental impact studies and sustainability strategies for various projects.
  • Conduct site evaluations, environmental risk assessments, and due diligence investigations to identify potential environmental issues.
  • Develop detailed environmental management plans, including mitigation strategies, regulatory compliance requirements, and sustainability goals.
  • Identify and troubleshoot environmental challenges through data collection, field surveys, and modeling, providing innovative solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, industry standards, and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Drive process improvements by integrating new technologies, methodologies, and sustainability practices into environmental assessments.
  • Promote collaboration and creativity within the team, facilitating brainstorming sessions and sharing best practices in environmental consulting.
  • Work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and project managers, in an agile environment.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Minimum 3-4 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, with at least 2 years focused on specific areas (e.g., water quality, air quality, waste management).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • Strong portfolio of successful environmental projects, showcasing technical expertise and innovation.
  • Proficiency in environmental modeling software (e.g., ArcGIS, ENVI) and data analysis tools.
  • Deep understanding of environmental regulations, impact assessment methodologies, and sustainable practices.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with environmental data analytics and performance monitoring.
  • A solid understanding of business models and financial incentives related to environmental management and sustainability.
  • Experience in conducting and leading environmental audits and regulatory compliance assessments.
  • Basic knowledge of programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python) for data analysis and environmental modeling.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-specialists and work collaboratively within a team.
