Climate change analyst Job Description

Example of a Climate change analyst

INTRODUCTION:

  • Company overview: Founding vision, current state of affairs, size, relevant stats. 
  • Role mission: Goals, team, and resources to make it happen. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conduct research and analysis on the impacts of climate change, including data modeling and scenario analysis.
  • Assess climate-related risks and opportunities for businesses, governments, or organizations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate climate risks and enhance resilience.
  • Analyze policy developments related to climate change and advise clients on regulatory compliance and strategic response.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate climate considerations into broader sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate findings to decision-makers and the public.
  • Stay updated on the latest climate science, technological advancements, and policy trends.
  • Support the development of climate action plans, carbon reduction strategies, and sustainability goals.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • trong understanding of climate science, including knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions, carbon accounting, and climate modeling.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, particularly in assessing climate impacts and risk scenarios.
  • Familiarity with climate policy frameworks and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to both expert and non-expert audiences.
  • Project management experience in climate-related projects or initiatives.
  • Experience with climate risk assessment tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Climate Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in climate finance, including carbon markets and green investment strategies.
  • Certification in climate-related fields (e.g., GHG Protocol, TCFD).
  • Familiarity with climate adaptation and mitigation technologies.
  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting standards, such as CDP and TCFD.
  • Experience in conducting life cycle assessments (LCA) with a focus on climate impact.
  • Proficiency in GIS, climate modeling software, or other relevant analytical tools.
  • Prior experience working with NGOs, governmental bodies, or international climate organizations.
